Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information DramaHog ("we", "us") collects when you use dramahog.com, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We try to collect as little as we need.

1. Information we collect

Information you give us

• Account details: username, email address and password (stored only in scrambled, hashed form), and optionally a display name and profile picture.
• What you do on the site: your watch list and statuses, ratings, favorites, reminder choices, comments, likes and reports. If you turn on a public profile, the parts you choose are visible to anyone at your profile address.
• Email sign-ups: your email address (and the drama) if you subscribe to the weekly schedule email or ask for episode reminders without an account.
• Messages: anything you send us by email.

Information collected automatically

• Technical data: your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you request and when. This is recorded in server logs and by our security and delivery provider so the site works and stays safe.
• Cookies and similar technologies: a small cookie that keeps you logged in, and, only with your consent, analytics (and advertising if we run ads). See our Cookie Policy.

2. How we use it

• To run your account and show your list, ratings and comments.
• To send emails you asked for: sign-up confirmations, password resets, episode reminders and the weekly schedule. Every reminder and digest has an unsubscribe link.
• To keep the site secure, prevent spam and abuse, and moderate comments.
• To understand how the site is used and improve it (analytics, only with your consent).
• To pay for the site through advertising, if and when we show ads (personalised ads only with your consent where the law requires it).

If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, our legal bases are: performing our agreement with you (your account and the emails you request), your consent (analytics and personalised advertising cookies), and our legitimate interests in running, securing and improving the site.

3. Who we share information with

We do not sell your email address or account details. We share information only with service providers that help us run the site, and only as needed:

• Hosting and delivery: our web host and Cloudflare, which delivers the site and protects it from attacks.
• Google: Google Analytics (only after you accept), Google Fonts (which loads the site's typeface, so your IP address is sent to Google), and Google advertising services if we run ads.
• TVmaze: many poster images are loaded from TVmaze's servers, so your IP address is visible to them when a page loads.
• Email delivery: our own mail server sends our emails.
• Legal reasons: if the law or a valid legal process requires it, or to protect our rights and users.

4. Advertising

DramaHog may show ads served by third parties such as Google. These companies may use cookies and similar technologies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the internet.

Where the law requires consent (for example in the European Economic Area, the UK and some US states), personalised ads and the cookies behind them are used only if you accept them in our cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings in the footer. You can also opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info. Non-personalised ads may still be shown.

5. How long we keep it

We keep your account information for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, or ask us to, we delete or anonymise your personal data, except where we must keep something for legal reasons or to keep the site secure. Server logs are kept for a limited period by our hosting provider. Comments you posted may be removed with your account.

6. Your choices and rights

You can update your profile details on your profile page, turn reminders and emails off from the link in any email or from your list, and change cookie choices in the footer. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to:

• access the personal data we hold about you and get a copy;
• correct it, or ask us to delete it;
• object to or restrict some uses, and withdraw consent at any time;
• move your data to another service;
• opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for advertising (California and some other US states), and not be treated worse for using these rights;
• complain to your local data protection authority.

7. Children

DramaHog is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Security and international transfers

We use reasonable measures to protect your information, such as hashed passwords and encrypted connections (HTTPS). No system is perfectly secure. Our providers may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States, under appropriate safeguards where required.

9. Links to other sites

DramaHog links to streaming services and other sites. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, so please read their policies.

10. Changes and contact
